DVM
Native to the Muskogee area, Dr. Matthew Walkup graduated from the Oklahoma State University of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. After graduation, he joined the staff at Blackwell Animal Hospital in Blackwell, OK, as an associate veterinarian. Returning to Muskogee in 2007, he started Farm Call Vet, a large animal ambulatory practice that served Muskogee and the surrounding area.
After purchasing Animal Medical Center in 2015, he merged the two practices. Currently, Dr. Walkup focuses on food animal medicine and herd health with a special interest in bovine medicine. In his free time, he enjoys blacksmithing, off-roading, and spending time with his family.
DVM (relief doctor only)
Dr. Tim Synar is from the Muskogee area and joined Animal Medical Center in 1976 following graduation from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He became co-owner of the practice in 1977. His primary focus was on dairy medicine when he worked with 39 dairies in the 60-mile service area of the practice. In the 1980s, Dr. Synar started performing small animal medicine as well and transitioned to small animal medicine exclusively in the early 2000s.
In 2015, he switched from co-owner to associate veterinarian when the practice was sold to Dr. Walkup. Currently, Dr. Synar assists local rescues and shelters by performing spay/neuter clinics in the Muskogee area.

Dr. Stefani Barnett joined Animal Medical Center in 2016. She moved to Oklahoma from Pennsylvania in 2009 and graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. After graduation, Dr. Barnett completed an internship at Oakridge Equine Hospital in Edmond, OK, where she further developed her equine medicine and surgical skills.
At Animal Medical Center, she focuses on equine and small animal veterinary medicine and has a special interest in performance horses and helping equine athletes perform better. In her free time, Dr. Barnett enjoys competing on her horses in barrel racing. She resides in Muskogee with her husband Tony, three horses, three dogs, and two cats.
DVM (not accepting new patients)
Dr. Gloyd Miller is from Webbers Falls, OK, and entered Connors State College at the age of 16. After he graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1964, he opened a mobile practice in Warner, OK. In 1974, he designed and built the current Animal Medical Center facility.
He primarily focuses on large and exotic animals, with a special interest in horses. Dr. Miller retired in 2015 but continues to see selected patients. In his retirement, he enjoys fishing, hunting, photography, and traveling with his wife Dessa.
